Discovering Clothing: Identity, Stereotypes, & Appropriation

DP-15302-010.jpg

Clothing is widespread across all cultures, and it often has different meanings in different places. For Indigineous people, clothing can be used to express their cultural identity, traditions, and environmental challenges. However, clothing can also be used as a tool to deconstruct and misrepresent all of the above. The use of clothing as a weapon has been found in American cultural stereotypes, historical assimilation processes, and continued cultural appropriation that continues to exist even today.
