Maryland Loyalism Project

The Memorial of the Principio Company

The Principio Company was a partnership of William Pellatt, Charles Wright, Osgood Gee, and Peter Calmel, who owned multiple iron works and significant tracts of land in Maryland that were confiscated by the state government. It claimed a loss for 95 people it had enslaved.

Some themes its Loyalist Claim Commission memorial suggest include absentee-ownership, confiscation, and industry.
