Should quit Maryland but all the Vessels being
so engaged that she could they Maliciously
compelled her to take into her House a number
of their Soldiers whereto they from time to time continued
till the year 1776 when on Lord Dunmore’s Proclamation
which she Declared she would embrace she refused
any longer to Quarter their Soldiers,they then attemptd
to have her tarred and feathered which if effected would
have ended her miserable Life.
That your Memorialists Blankets was then all
seized for the Use of the Soldiers which with her
other Losses by them amounted to £70 Sterlg together
with their putting a stop to the Payment of several
other debts to the Amount of £100 Sterling more, on
the 8th of August 1776 she Chartered a Schooner of
a person in whom she could confide and conveyed
her little chattles on Board and went down almost
to the Capes in search of Lord Dunmore, but his
Lordship sailed from thence afew days before, she
then returned as far back as the Head of Elk where
she settled and kept the Elk Tavern and County
Ferry till March 1777 at which time under a
Proclamation issued by Congress that all who were
Desirous to quit the Province might without taking
any of their Goods other than the Country Produce,
she then called a Vandue and sold all and havg
chartered a Schooner [illeg] on Board 81 Barrls
