the first people of the Province who all concurred in the
Same Sentiment – Witness says he has known Claimant
from 1769 – and from that time has never known him do
any action but what was honorable and just – He was a
Man of excellent Character – Witness says he was called
before the Committee of Baltimore County who gave him
two hours to consider of the answers he was to give to the
Questions they had put to him – He sent on this occasion
to Mr. Chalmers to advise with him as a Friend but –
doubted his coming owing to the violence of the People –
Claimant however did come to him and he considers
by so doing that he run a great Personal risque. –
Says he has been informed by Mr. Lawson with whom he had
conversed on the subject of Claimants professional Gains,
that his Tobacco fees were about 60,000lb of Tobacco – His
profesion produced him sufficient to maintain himself
in a genteel Situation. –
