Godrevy lighthouse,Sir, - Although Virginia Woolf placed her best-known novel on the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Hebrides, it is well known that the most autobiographical of her works (first published in 1927) was based on her Cornish holidays as a child at Talland House in St Ives. It was the family’s annual visit to the romantic lighthouse, across the bay at Godrevy, that was on her mind. Now, the exorbitant upkeep of the lighthouse can no longer be sustained, and readers of the TLS may like to know that this iconic monument will have to find new ownership. Surely it should be preserved as part of the nation’s literary heritage
