Sterling a year arising from fees after 1775 there was
little benefit from this Office
It was taken from his Father in May 1777 on Account
of his Loyalty and he died the 15th of June last. The Claim
is made for the Profits for the intermediate Time
He received no allowance during his Life from Govt

James Brooks Sworn To the Case of David Steuart
            Knew David Steuart in America he was always
considered as a Loyalist and always conducted
himself as such he never conformed to the belief
of the Witness to any of the Requisitions of the Americans
but does not know of any active Loyalty.
He was Register of the Land Office it was an Office
appointed by and removeable from at the Pleasure of
the Judges but it was considered usually as a Post
to be enjoyed during good behavior.
Has heard the Salary of the Office was equal to £60 Sterling
a Year supposes the fees must have been equal to £100
Sterling a Year Heard one year that the Register once
made £400 Currency.
Says the Claimant was dismissed on the formation
of the New Government he believes because he was
a non conformist and he thinks that if he had confd
he would have been continued in the Office.
            To the Case of George Steuart.
Says Mr. George Steuart was one of the Judges of
the Land Office the Office had been discontinued
under the New Government it was worth £400
