to the Proprietor _ M.r Smith Says he never was over
the Land but it was not near a navigable River Frederick
Town was the nearest Town which was 80 miles from Fort
Cumberland.
On M.r Harfords Application to the State of
Maryland they considered the arrears of Quit Rents as debts
and claimed them as such but the Senate would not listen
to the Claim.

Is questioned as to the purchase of Lands in
Frederick County which he mentioned the other day.
Says that the Purchase was made in Sep.t 1775.
The quantity he bought was 800 Aces. He bought it of M.r
Boucher for 9s/ Currency an Acre. It lay in Frederic County
which was a more advantageous Situation than M.r Harfords
Lands to the Westward of Fort Cumberland as it lay nearer
the Cultivated parts of the Country _ Says he wou’d have given
that Price for any Quantity could he have raised the Money.
Says with respect to M.r Harfords Lands when he
said the other day he thought 3s/ an Acre would be a fair bargain
between M.r Harford and Sir Rob’t Eden _ he meant it to be
understood that Sir Rob’t Eden shou’d have it at an under
Price as he was M.r Harfords Relation and his Governor, As
a general valuation he thinks the Land was worth 4/6 an
Acre and more.
Being further questioned as to this point he says that
