taking it in small parts he thinks it was worth some
parts 12s P.r Acre but taking in the Lump good & bad
Land together he thinks 3s/ Sterling P.r Acre would be a fair
Price for it.
Says with respect to his own Purchase, he did not pay
the Money to M.r Boucher but gave his bond conditioned to pay
the Amount on a proper Conveyance being made to him,
which was never done.
Produces the Original Agreement (which M.r Boucher
has given up to him) dated 9.th Sep.r 1775.
 
Horatio Sharpe Esq.r Sworn
Was appointed L.t Governor of Maryland under
Lord Baltimore ab.t 1753 and so continued till 1768. when he was
succeeded by Sir Rob.t Eden. He received the Salary from Lord
Baltimores Agent Says Lord Baltimore at first allowed
him £1,000 Per Annum _ and for some years before he ceased to
be Governor Lord Baltimore sent over an Order that he shou’d
have the whole Produce of the Duty of 12d P. Hhd on Tobacco
but the duty was received by Lord Baltimore Officers who paid
it over to him. The Amount of the duty was generally upwards
of 13 or £1,400 Sterling _ he never knew it less than 1300£
or £1400 It might be for 3 or 4 years before he quitted the Govt
that he received it _ Says the Instruction from L.d Baltimore
as to the payment of this duty was not a general Instruct.n
applicable to all future Governors. but he believes Sir Rob.t
Eden likewise enjoyed it, Says he does not recollect that any
