Them but from a late Act for the Discovery of the
Property of Attainted persons he fears they will be lost
and therefore desires to claim conditionally for the Loss
of them he values them at 40 each.

James Brooks Sworn
Knew the Claimant and his Family in America
Says the Claimant did muster with the Americans
in 1775 when he was a Lad but he was always Loyal
his elder Brother took the other side.
does not know of the Claimant refusing to sign the
Association but recollects this refusal to take Arms on
the passing by of the British Fleet in 1777.
Says his Father died in 1770 and he was possessed of
considerable property He has seen his Will which
was not executed so as to pass real Estates Remems
the Settlement between the two Brother is in 1775 the
deed was written by himself at the same time
The elder Brother gave some Part of his Estate to his
Sister, it was thought at the time a very liberal
Disposition in the elder Brother he is unable to
speak to the value.
Being questioned as to the expense of obtaining
Grants from the Proprietors of Maryland he says
The Grantees paid 1/ Sterling an Acre for caution
Money as it was called besides all Fees, he
imagines the Fees on each Grant could not
exceed 5 or 6 sterling.
