Evidence on the foregoing Memorial of
                           Richard Button
The Claimant…. Sworn
The Memorial read, and sworn to,
Copy of Certificate to Loyalty from Sir Robt Eden read.
A Native of Great Britain—Settled in Baltimore
as a Merchant in 1767—on the Commencement of the //
disturbances he declared his Sentiments in favor of this
Country, was by Sir Robert Eden appointed a Justice
of the Peace in order to be the better able to do Service.—
In consequence of his Attachment to Great Britain he
was obliged to quit Maryland, and went to the West Indies
this was in the Month of Sepr 1775. On the British Forces
taking possession of New York he went thither—and there
served among the Volunteer Companies at that Place—
              Produces Copy of his Commissm as Lieut in a Compy
of Loyal Volunteers at New York—He continued at
New York till Novr 1782 when he came to England
in the Carysfort Frigate.
In Sepr 1783 he went from England to Maryland to
see after his property there, and succeeded as to the recovery
of Part thereof—
              He withdraws his Claim as to every part of the Property
mentioned in his Schedule except the first Article of
Landed Property.—
             Says he purchased a Lot of Land in Baltimore at
