Robt Smith Esqr   Sworn
            Says he knew Mr Alexander before the commencemt
of the disturbances in America.
            Being questioned as to Mr Alexanders Conduct Says he
was in the Congress and^was agt the principle of Taxation but had
declared his Sentiments to Mr Dulany and others that if there
shoud any Idea of Separation take Place he woud quit the Congress.
He was also a Member of the Convention, When Sir Wm Howe
came up the Bay he joined him and knows the People in Maryd
said that if they got him they woud on that account hang him up.
            Does not particularly know his Property, but says
Mr Alexander was esteemed a Man of Fortune.
            He was in a flourishing Way of business, but does not
know the amount of it.

George Chalmers Esqr Sworn.
            Being questioned as to Mr Alexanders Conduct.
            Says Mr Alexander was a very honorable Man but his
Opinions were diametrically opposite to those of the witness.
Says he believes that Mr Alexanders Motives for going in to Congress
were that he thought the Colonies were oppressed- He was
opposed to the Idea of a Separation and quitted Congress on
that account. Says that Mr Alexander is an honest Man
and woud not have done any thing that was inconsistent
therewith and whilst he acted with the violent Party he
was not himself violent nor disposed to oppress others who
differed from him in Opinion.
