Taafe—never heard of any Sons.—
The Estate of Mr Tottrell was managed by a Mr Flanagan
who he believes acted for Mr Taafe—It was an unimproved
Estate—Mr Alexander knew it well untill he came away in
1779—Says altho’ an unimproved Estate it was certainly very
valuable from its situation in the Town of Baltimore and
wou’d have let out at ground Rents, or would have sold for a
large Sum of Money—Thinks there were five Lots—four
lying contiguous, the other at a Distance—There was also
som Meadow Ground nearly contiguous to the Town which was
rented out by Mr Flanagan—Mr Flanagan was esteemed an
honest candid Man, but does not think he was fully equally to the
Trust reposed in him
Says he once had an Intention of purchasing a Part of
the Estate himself—but he found Mrs Taafe was dead and
therefore that Mr Taafe coud make a Title for no more than
his own Life—therefore declined—
With respect to Walsh’s Adventure—He says it was not in
the possession of Mr Tottrell at his Death, after his Death it
lay a long Time without any Person taking any Notice of it—
after which Mr Carrol entered as Heir to his Father who
obtained it by Escheat—and sold it to Mr Lux—Carrol
doubted his own Title and wou’d not give a general Warranty to
Mr Lux, but only under himself and his father—was offered
£400 if he would give a general warranty—but sold to
Lux for £150
