Woolf was able to explore social interactions between the “better class of visitors” and local townspeople through the characters of Mrs. Ramsay and Mrs. McNab or Mr. Ramsay and Macalister. In this way, Woolf drew attention to the changes rapidly taking place between social classes at the beginning of the twentieth century.
