Maryland Loyalism Project

The Memorial of Elizabeth Allen

Elizabeth Allen (b.1753) came to Maryland in 1766 with her brother Rev. Bennett Allen and remained to protect his property until 1780 (he had left in 1775). She claimed to have supported British soldiers during the war. Allen claimed a loss for 1 person she had enslaved.

Some themes her Loyalist Claim Commission memorial suggest include women’s experience, material culture, and military service.
