The Memorial of Philip Barton Key
Philip Barton Key (1757-1815), refused to sign on to the Patriot Association and took up arms for the British forces during the war, before departing for England in late 1782. Key later went on to serve as a representative from Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives. Key claimed a loss for 16 people he had enslaved.
Some themes his Loyalist Claim Commission memorial suggest include confiscation, military service, and persecution.
