Maryland Loyalism Project

The Memorial of John Shuttleworth

John Shuttleworth, physician, who went to Maryland in 1768, purchased some property and left five years later. He went back in 1782 as an agent for Henry Harford and Robert Eden, but had little success in reclaiming any of their property.

Some themes his Loyalist Claim Commission memorial suggest include absentee-ownership and confiscation.
