The Memorial of Lawrence Kellar
Lawrence Kellar (1702-?) came to Maryland from Germany, likely in the 1760s. He was a successful planter and a brewer who lived near Egar Town. Having faced persecution for his refusal to support the Patriot cause, he eventually fled to New York (1778) and then England (1781). He sought compensation for lost property (land, buildings, crops, livestock).
Some themes his Loyalist Claim Commission memorial suggest include persecution and migration.
