Maryland Loyalism Project

The Memorial of Robert Smith

Robert Smith came to Maryland in 1769 as the private secretary to Governor Robert Eden. Eden left in 1776, but Smith remained until 1780 when he returned to England. Seeking to recover his lost property and income.

Some themes his Loyalist Claim Commission memorial suggest include office-holding and persecution.
